A 15-member cast and crew staged "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street," based on a 1960 episode from the first season of "The Twilight Zone," by Rod Serling, creator-narrator of the CBS television anthology series. Cast members of the first place Group Interpretation entry are: Dejah Morris, Markeia Kellogg, Amaia Howard, Alexis Eiland, Victoria Dean, Alayna Hester, Chris Rapp, Armanti Reed, Jalen Causey, Tobias Davis and Terrance Mayfield. Student directors are Angelica Ferguson, Lisa Owens, Kassidy Hayslett and Jonathan Reynolds. "Our speech team and its coaches, Cheryl Frazier, Lauren Wells and Alesha Alexander, know well how to tell a compelling story through drama. This win sets a new high mark as South Suburban Sectional Champions for the second consecutive year in both Performance in the Round and Group Interpretation," said Dr. Blondean Davis, Southland College Prep's CEO. "Southland's Performance in the Round group then went on to place first in both the 2017 and 2018 IHSA State Speech finals and our Group Interpretation team was the State Champion in 2017. "We look forward to this year's Group Interpretation Sectional championship team's performance in the State finals in Peoria on March 23, "Dr. Davis added.
