Pete is an urban planner with more than twenty years’ experience in planning, economic development, and community development, with stops in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Since 2007, Pete’s principal roles were with the City of Joliet, as Senior Planner overseeing downtown and neighborhood planning efforts; with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, as Senior Planner overseeing the agency’s Local Technical Assistance Program; and with the City of Calumet City, as Economic Development Director, leading that community’s economic development program.
Pete is also a writer and researcher whose work focuses on urbanism and public policy. Pete has been the editor/publisher of the Corner Side Yard, an urbanist blog, since 2012. Pete has also been an urban affairs contributor to Forbes Magazine's online platform since 2016. Outside of blogging, Pete’s writings have been published widely, focusing on issues such as race and public policy; urban migration dynamics; global city demographics; economic and social inequality; gentrification; Rust Belt metro analysis; and Midwest regional analysis.
