The Citizen of the Year Award recognizes a special Richton Park resident who, through their personal involvement, leadership abilities, and selfless giving of their time and talent, has positively affected the Village, the lives of its citizens, and the overall community. With this award, the Village honors those who’s continued contributions to Richton Park result in a substantial benefit to the community. These individuals have a steady, reliable, long-term history of service to the Village of Richton Park.
Mr. Randy Thames, a proud resident of Richton Park since 2013, has been a positive influence to everyone and volunteers in endless capacities for the community. In addition to supporting Richton Park programming and events, he has been an active member in civic engagement as well as leadership. Currently a 5-year member of our Human Relations Commission, Randy continues his passion of community building. He brings not only new ideas to benefit residents but also an outstanding work ethic. From 2023-2024, he even worked with village staff in providing workshops to the community on social media networking and business marketing best practices.
Outside of Richton Park, Randy Thames gives 150%, working many years in Education. He has taught, mentored, and lead youth programs and sports for nearly a decade - coaching k-8th grade basketball as well as High School Women’s Varsity Basketball. He served as the Assistant Head Coach and educator for Marian Catholic High School from 2014 to 2021, instilling essential values like teamwork, discipline, and perseverance in young athletes. He was also recently acknowledged as Truesport’s “Cohort For Change” Coach, where he will be partnering with other coaches throughout the country to explore and develop mental wellness best practices, support the development of young athletes, and mentorship.
Randy is a man of integrity, a community leader, and a truly caring individual. It is an honor to acknowledge his accomplishments over the years. Congratulations to our 2025 Richton Park Citizen of the Year!
