The Parks and Recreation Commission consist of seven members appointed by the Village President of the Board of Trustees and confirmed by the Board to serve respectively a three-year term. The duties of the commission include:
Work with the Parks & Recreation director by offering program ideas and assisting in the planning of new programs and special events, and ensure that the programs offered are diverse and safe.
Work with the Parks and Recreation director to formulate short and long term park development goals.
Provide guidance regarding the implementation of programs and special events.
Provide assistance with fund raising efforts.
Serve as an ambassador for Parks & Recreation in the Village as to assist in determining the wants and desires of the Community.
Undertake a periodic review of the department budget for the purpose of understanding program and facility development.
The Commission has two Committees that they oversee – The Scholarship Committee and the Citizen Stakeholders Committee for the Community Center.
The Parks and Recreation Commission most recent undertaking was the community involvement in the planning and design of the new community Center. The Commission was instrumental in gather data and surveys that formulated the shape, design and programming for the Community Center. The Community Center opened its doors in January 2011.
